About this work
Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ opens with a chorus whose motif circulates among voices, corno da tirarsi, flute, oboes d’amore and strings. The texture remains clear despite these forces because instruments relay and colour entries rather than doubling them uniformly. This circulation should determine the tempo.
The tenor aria combines flute and oboe d’amore before an alto recitative and first chorale. After another recitative, the bass pronounces Fried sei mit euch in a broad arioso; the choir intervenes as an anxious community around this central utterance. A final chorale closes the cantata.
In the opening, identify every transfer of the motif between voices and instruments. The tenor should breathe with both winds without hardening coloratura. Give the bass a stable line in the arioso and rehearse choral interruptions separately so they contrast while belonging to the same motion.
