About this work
Alles nur nach Gottes Willen opens with a compact chorus where two oboes, strings and voices repeat and develop a formula of acceptance. Bach later reused this music in the G minor Mass BWV 235. Lively imitation prevents the text from becoming a static declaration.
An alto recitative leads to an aria accompanied by strings whose close motifs surround the voice. After the bass recitative, the soprano aria brings the first oboe forward with the orchestra. The final chorale restores the Was mein Gott will melody in direct harmonisation.
In the chorus, articulate the shared formula identically before rehearsing imitation. The alto should find breaths within the string motifs, and the soprano listen to the oboe as a partner. Keep the chorale mobile so it concludes without slowing the whole trajectory.
