About this work
Herr Gott, dich loben alle wir BWV 130 celebrates Michaelmas with three trumpets, timpani, oboes and strings. In the chorale fantasia, the soprano holds the tune within deliberately brilliant writing.
A bass recitative leads to a martial aria with trumpets and timpani. Soprano and tenor then share a recitative; the tenor sings a more mobile aria with flute before the final chorale.
Establish the voices before adding instrumental splendour. Bass and trumpets must articulate common accents. The change of colour towards the flute asks greater suppleness from the tenor; keep the chorale alive rather than massive.
