Cantate BWV 133 - Ich freue mich in dir

About this work

Ich freue mich in dir BWV 133 gives its Christmas chorale fantasia a highly mobile joy. The soprano carries the hymn, reinforced by cornett, while oboes d’amore, strings and lower voices exchange rapid figures.

The alto then sings an aria with oboes d’amore. A tenor recitative leads to the soprano aria with strings, and the bass recitative prepares the final chorale.

Keep the cantus firmus stable amid the chorus’s activity. The alto should breathe with both oboes. The soprano needs light articulation without losing consonants; let the final chorale reunite the forces without excessive broadening.
