Cantate BWV 137 - Lobe den Herrn, den mächtigen König der Ehren
About this work
Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Ehren BWV 137 retains all five hymn stanzas. The opening chorus joins trumpets, timpani, oboes and strings around the tune carried by the soprano.
The alto sings the second stanza with violin, then soprano and bass form a duet in which the chorale remains recognisable. The tenor dialogues with trumpet in the fourth stanza, and the final chorale gathers all forces.
First learn the melody linking all five movements. Keep the alto aria and duet at chamber scale. Tenor and trumpet must articulate together without competing before the return of the large ensemble.
