Mein liebster Jesus ist verloren follows the Gospel story of Jesus found in the Temple. The opening tenor aria does not yet describe that reunion: strings sustain a troubled tread and painful harmonies. The recitative extends the search before a first chorale provides a point of stability.
The alto aria Jesu, laß dich finden changes the motion with two oboes d’amore and an active harpsichord part. The bass then speaks Christ’s words in an arioso, after which the tenor recognises the voice he sought. An alto-tenor duet celebrates the finding before the closing chorale.
Build the work as a genuine dramatic arc. In the opening aria, keep syncopations tense without slowing at every dissonance. The bass arioso should remain poised and intelligible; reserve a new lightness for the duet so that the final return to chorale feels like release.
