Es ist ein trotzig und verzagt Ding closes Bach’s 1725 sequence of cantatas on texts by Christiane Mariane von Ziegler. The opening chorus sets Jeremiah’s verse as a compact fugue: the bass launches an angular subject, soon taken up by all voices above a very active continuo.
The alto recitative acknowledges fear, then the soprano aria Dein sonst hell beliebter Schein answers that darkness with more luminous string motion. After the bass recitative, the alto aria unites two oboes and an oboe da caccia in unison before the final chorale.
In the chorus, every entry should remain identifiable without hardening the dotted rhythm. The soprano aria needs light strings that allow the vocal phrase to breathe. For the alto aria, establish tuning and one shared colour among the three oboes before seeking power.
