Concerto brandebourgeois n°03 en Sol majeur BWV 1048 - 1er et 2e mvts
About this work
The third Brandenburg Concerto BWV 1048 brings together three violins, three violas, three cellos and continuo. In the opening Allegro no section remains a mere accompanist: motifs circulate in blocks, imitation and handovers among the nine solo strings.
The second movement is reduced in the source to two chords marked Adagio. This suspension creates space for a cadence before the finale; it belongs to the work’s course even though it is not a developed movement comparable with the two Allegros.
Rehearse each group of three before combining the ensemble. Attacks, lengths and articulations must remain compatible when motifs change section; in the Adagio, agree collectively on the breath and on any improvised cadence.
