About this work

Invention No. 1 opens with a semiquaver figure that passes from one hand to the other. Each entry should remain clear without interrupting the opposing line. Practise each voice separately, then combine them with an even, unforced touch.

Isolate the ornaments and register crossings before playing continuously. Keep the accompanying voice shaped instead of turning it into a neutral background. Then bring out each voice in turn without changing tempo, and direct every sequence towards its harmonic arrival.
