About this work
The Musical Offering carries the so-called royal theme through very different forms. The three-part Ricercar allows its entries to be followed in a keyboard texture; the six-part Ricercar expands the counterpoint into an open score where every line must retain autonomy. The same profile thus becomes material for exploration rather than a refrain.
The canons play with intervals, directions and delayed entries, sometimes as riddles to be solved. The Trio Sonata introduces another relation to time: its movements set two upper lines in dialogue above a continuo bass. The collection therefore alternates learned concentration with instrumental motion without losing its common theme.
The file gathers several presentations of this material, including open-score versions and more directly playable reductions. Begin by marking the royal theme in each piece, then distinguish subject, answer and free voices. For the Sonata, practise the three lines separately; for the canons, understand the rule before seeking a tempo.
