Six partitas n°2 BWV 826
About this work
The second Keyboard Partita BWV 826, published separately in 1726 and later in the first Clavier-Übung, opens with a three-part Sinfonia: a dotted Grave, a contrapuntal Andante and a rapid conclusion.
Allemande, Courante and Sarabande then establish three distinct pulses. A Rondeau replaces the expected minuet before the final Capriccio combines imitation, wide leaps and rhythmic energy in a highly mobile conclusion.
Study every movement through its dance and bass rather than applying one touch to the whole suite. Identify contrapuntal entries in the Sinfonia and Capriccio; in slower movements, prepare ornaments from the harmony.
