About this work

This Sonata in E-flat major, BWV 1031, brings together flute and keyboard. Its historical classification under piano was misleading: the upper part is not an optional melody, but a true flute part in dialogue with the accompaniment.

The archive contains two PDFs: a 4-page flute part and a 12-page score with the flute above the two keyboard staves. All three movements are present. For a rehearsal with two players, print the score for the keyboard player and the separate part for the flautist.

Begin by settling breaths and cadences before working on speed. The keyboard should retain its own articulation instead of mechanically following every flute attack. The historical notice attributes this edition to the Mutopia project; check the information in the archive if you intend to redistribute it.
