About this work
The first Trio Sonata asks the organist to animate three lines like three independent players. In the opening movement, the upper voices exchange motifs above a mobile pedal part. Balance needs to remain horizontal: neither hand can settle permanently into the foreground.
The central Adagio lightens the motion and requires genuine cantabile, with breaths that do not interrupt the bass. The final Allegro restores livelier energy based on imitation and a regular pulse. The three movements form a journey rather than three unrelated exercises.
Practise each voice alone while singing it, then combine them in pairs before playing the complete trio. Choose distinct but balanced registrations for the hands and a pedal sound present without heaviness. Precision of articulation matters more than a forced tempo that obscures the responses.
