About this work

The Gigue is the fourth movement of Suite BWV 997. This guitar transcription in A minor preserves its compound motion and imitative entries: a leaping motif passes from voice to voice before occupying the full register.

The second half reverses the direction of several figures and broadens the shifts. Bass notes organise the sequences while upper notes maintain the dance impulse through to the cadence.

Practise the motif in every voice with the same articulation. Prepare position changes from the bass, keep triplets even and avoid accelerating through sequences; lightness comes from economical movement, not a forced tempo.
