Suite pour violoncelle n°2 en Ré mineur BWV1008
About this work
The second Cello Suite BWV 1008 explores D minor in a darker language than the first suite. The Prelude builds tension through broken lines and pauses before a cadence that seems to draw several voices from a single instrument.
Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue each establish their own pulse. Two Minuets form the central pair: the second brings a brighter colour before the first returns, without erasing the suite’s overall gravity.
Practise the implied bass and points of arrival before adding ornaments. In the dances, distinguish upbeats from structural stresses without breaking the line; compare the viola version as well to hear how register and fingering alter resonance.
