About this work
The finale returns to C minor with a nervous refrain, immediately recognisable by its outline and accents. Episodes alter texture and colour, but the motif returns often enough to sustain the rondo’s tension.
Listen to the piano moving from brilliant runs to carrying the theme, then to the orchestra taking up a cell left suspended. The ending gradually transforms the opening’s dark energy and leads towards a brighter coda without erasing the movement’s accents.
Practise the refrain at several tempos while preserving exactly the same articulations. In episodes, mark the bass lines that direct modulations. The final increase should come from rhythmic density and dynamics, not from a rush that blurs the exchanges.
