Sonate n°05 Op. 10 en ut mineur - 1er mvt
About this work
A rising gesture punctuated by chords and silences immediately asserts C minor at the beginning of Sonata Op. 10 No. 1. Allegro molto e con brio calls for momentum, but the theme’s force comes above all from the clarity of its rhythm and stops.
The second group brings a more connected line and a different balance between the hands. To hear the sonata form, locate returns of the opening gesture, changes of key and the bass’s role in transitions. Contrasts need to alter character without breaking the shared tempo.
Practise chords by preparing each position before the attack, then measure silences within the pulse. In rapid runs, group notes towards their destination and lighten the thumbs. Keep some dynamic reserve for the development and coda: playing at full force from the outset would make later returns less expressive.
