Capriccio en Si mineur Op. 76-2

About this work

In the second Capriccio, Allegretto non troppo moves through B minor in restrained jolts. Chords do not always land where the ear expects them, and short lines answer across low and high registers. This syncopated play gives the piece its spring; accents should therefore avoid becoming vertical blows or hardening the tempo.

Nervous episodes alternate with more connected passages. Several returns reuse the same profile with a different dynamic, bass or density. The left hand does more than accompany: it introduces motifs, extends sustained tones and prepares harmonic changes. The right hand needs presence without covering this framework, particularly when the chords widen.

Begin by playing only bass notes and chord tops to understand the phrase. Add inner voices while keeping the wrist flexible. Count rests as active events and prepare every return from the preceding bar. The non troppo qualification matters: a slightly contained pace gives syncopations time to work and makes each change of character much clearer.
