Book II of Op. 35 restates Paganini’s theme but does not repeat the first book’s route. Its fourteen variations use different distributions between the hands and build a more continuous approach to the last page. Poco animato, Poco allegretto, Poco più vivace, Veloce energico and Vivace create acceleration in stages rather than one uniform race.

Variations 12 and 13, Un poco Andante and Un poco più Andante, introduce a late relaxation. They prepare the final Presto ma non troppo, which combines chords, passagework and wide movement in a highly concentrated close. Ma non troppo is crucial: accurate accents and directed inner lines create more propulsion than an uncontrollable tempo.

Give every variation one dominant physical gesture and one directional note. Prepare double-note positions as blocks before restoring rhythm. Across large leaps, aim for the bass or top note that leads the phrase instead of giving every pitch equal force. Keep some speed in reserve before the final variation; its Presto should feel quicker because articulation lightens and groups tighten.
