Douce Plainte unfolds a G-minor phrase above arpeggios passed between the hands. Repeats and alternative endings subtly alter the route, so the melody must remain continuous while each join is prepared. Sudden accents are more effective when they stay expressive rather than percussive.
Connect the arpeggios to the melody
Reduce each arpeggio to its bass and top note first, so the harmony is clear. Restore the inner notes without making the thumb heavy. At every repeat, look one bar ahead to choose the correct ending; the phrase will keep its breath through the changes of register.
