In L’Adieu, Burgmüller sets triplets in motion beneath an urgent melody, then makes room for an espressivo passage. The return of the opening energy depends on hearing that contrast: the slowdowns and a tempo markings shape the study rather than merely changing its speed.
Keep the triplets moving
Practise the right hand by aiming for the arrival note of each group without rushing the two notes before it. In the middle section, the left hand repeats short figures while the melody opens out. Keep that accompaniment light and let each slur finish. Before returning to the opening tempo, find the pulse silently. Pedal can support the harmony, but should not blur the runs.
