In La Bergeronnette, the melody hops through repeated notes, small leaps and sudden changes of register. The bass does more than accompany: it often restarts the gesture. The piece stays lively when these entries are precise and the ends of slurs settle without weight.
Keep the phrase springing forward
Mark the arrival points before practising the groups between them. This creates a directed line instead of a sequence in which every note carries an accent. Then isolate the bass entries and their articulation; when the hands come together, let each cadence close before setting off again.
