La Gracieuse is a Moderato in F major and 3/4. Its decorated melody combines appoggiaturas, short slurs and dotted rhythms above a chordal accompaniment. The elegance implied by the title depends on contrasting articulations: short notes should rebound without dryness, while connected lines retain clear direction.

Delicate phrases alternate with firmer passages, sometimes moved to another register. The left hand sets the harmonic frame but must neither hold back the pulse nor crush the secondary layer. Ornaments belong inside the phrase’s rhythm; adding them afterwards makes them heavy and displaces the metre.
