25 Easy Studies, Op. 100: Progrès

The sixth study, Progrès, is an Allegro in C major and 4/4. Scales and stepwise figures pass between the hands, often in parallel motion or close replies. The study tests less absolute speed than the ability to keep an even rhythm while fingering, register and direction change.

Sequences expand in range and dynamics before reaching cadential chords. Crescendos should follow that larger design instead of being remade inside every group. A hard attack at the start of each scale creates bumps; a prepared support followed by lateral movement keeps the line continuous.

Practise each hand with dotted rhythms, then reverse the pattern to test every finger. Mark thumb crossings and prepare them through sideways movement without twisting. Join the hands slowly one bar at a time, increasing the tempo only while arrival notes, dynamics and rests remain exact.
