About this work
Carcassi’s third Étude from Opus 60 organises a regular flow of broken notes around a moving bass. Some upper notes continue above the figure, requiring the left hand to preserve several layers within an apparently uniform texture.
Chord changes gradually lead towards more extended positions before familiar shapes return. The page develops not pure speed but evenness, harmonic continuity and the ability to release one finger without cutting useful resonance.
Play bass and upper notes alone first to hear their trajectory. Then add the inner notes at a slow tempo; keep the right hand close to the strings and prepare each position change during the final resonance of the preceding chord.
