About this work
Carcassi’s seventh Étude from Opus 60, marked Allegro, is built on an arpeggio cell that continually crosses the strings. The bass changes beneath the figure and inner voices shift the harmony while the right hand maintains the same distribution.
Sequences lead through several areas of the fingerboard and alternate stronger with more restrained dynamics. Despite the density of semiquavers, cadences and returns remain clearly shaped through harmonic direction rather than added accents on every group.
First stabilise the right-hand fingering on open strings, then practise one chord segment at a time. Anticipate left-hand pivots, release thumb pressure during shifts and increase the tempo only when bass notes remain exactly in place.
