About this work
Carcassi’s ninth Étude from Opus 60, marked Allegro, places a connected upper line above a continuous stream of semiquavers. Bass and inner notes shift the harmony without interrupting that regular flow.
Across two pages, repeated figures alternate with short scales and changes of position. Dynamics create genuine phrases: they prevent the study from becoming a mechanical sequence and make returns of the opening material perceptible.
Practise melody and bass alone first, then add the inner notes. Keep the right hand close to the strings, prepare extensions before they arrive and increase the tempo only when upper notes retain their full duration.
