About this work

This C-major Moderato in 2/4 sends its energy through small groups of connected quavers. Primo launches figures that rise, turn back and suddenly change register; Secondo first supports them with a regular bass, then answers with chords and more active fragments. The challenge is not speed, but the precision with which both players reach the same accent after following different patterns.

Two repeated sections gradually widen the register. Some passages oppose a flexible line to repeated chords, while others place both parts in parallel motion. Piano and forte dynamics articulate these changes of texture. Near the end, repeated notes and closer accents add weight to the cadence before the phrase recovers its opening articulation.

For ensemble work, reduce every slurred group to its first note and play only this rhythmic skeleton with Secondo. Restore the quavers while keeping the accents in the same place. Parallel passages should arrive together without being hammered; secure fingering matters more than an ambitious tempo. The repeats also offer a chance to correct the balance: on the second pass, listen for whether the bass truly directs the motion or merely follows Primo.
