Pièces mélodiques Op. 149 n°16
About this work
The D-major Scherzo Allegro vivace in 3/8 relies on repeated chords, displaced accents and sudden retreats to piano or pianissimo. Secondo supplies an energetic foundation while Primo cuts lighter replies into the upper register. Speed alone is not enough: the character comes from the contrast between sharply defined blocks and silences that must retain their tension.
The Trio moves to G major and relaxes the texture. Lines lengthen, chords lose their opening insistence and the dynamics create more space. Scherzo da Capo senza replica then requires a return to the opening without repeating its repeated sections. The return must therefore be immediate and retain the Scherzo’s vivacity without erasing the release brought by the Trio.
Practise repeated chords with a rebounding wrist and identical note lengths in both parts. Prepare displaced accents by counting one pulse per bar, then isolate notes that change hand or register. In the Trio, reduce weight rather than tempo. For the Da Capo senza replica, mark the route clearly in each part and rehearse the join: hesitation over a page or repeat would destroy the sudden return the form is designed to create.
What the document containsDocument: The document contains 4 pages in PDF format. A MIDI file also helps locate the continuity and entries.
