The C-major Andante cantabile in 4/4 combines a strongly pulsed Secondo with a much more connected Primo. In the lower part, repeated chords alternate with short bass replies; above them, the melody moves in flexible groups, often doubled between the hands. This contrast of material gives the piece its depth. Secondo must sustain the phrase without imposing a succession of solid blocks.

Two repeated sections form a simple but carefully shaded arc. The first establishes a balance between harmonic sway and the upper line. The second widens the register, adds accents and leads through several contrasts among forte, piano and pianissimo. At times both pianists share the same rhythm before returning to their initial roles. These points of convergence should be audible, since they anchor the form and prepare the final fermata cadence.

Practise Secondo’s chords without pedal and agree on a common length, then add only Primo’s upper line. Primo can direct small notes towards structural accents instead of giving each one equal weight. Where the parts meet rhythmically, rehearse the attacks alone to secure their simultaneity. Keep some dynamic reserve for the later accents, and let the pianissimo lighten the cadence rather than merely making it quieter.
