This C-major Allegro in 4/4 places quaver motion at the centre of ensemble playing. Secondo begins with a detached figure above a regular bass; Primo replies with faster slurred groups, and the roles gradually draw closer. The pianists must do more than play together: they need to preserve one pulse as the active figure passes between registers.

Two repeated sections support the design. Rising sequences, parallel motion and forte chords progressively broaden the texture. Several passages set continuous quavers in one part against rests or chordal punctuation in the other. The return to piano must not lose momentum. In the second half, the voices move closer and exchanges become quicker before a short cadence assembled from the same rhythmic material.

First play all quavers on a single pitch to agree on their length and rebound. Restore the actual figures while identifying which player leads each sequence. Rests must be counted as precisely as notes, especially before forte entries. In parallel passages, favour a shared destination over an ambitious tempo. The second repeat can gain direction when crescendos are prepared across several bars rather than added at the last moment.
