Sonate H. XVI:27

About this work

Keyboard Sonata Hob. XVI:27 in G major opens with an Allegro con brio in which a clear line converses with Alberti bass and rapid scales. Repeats shape the movement, but Haydn renews articulation and register at every return.

The Menuet slows the gesture without abandoning ornament or exchanges between the hands; its Trio briefly darkens the colour. The final Presto relies on light figures, crossings and replies that demand a very stable pulse.

Practise repeats with consistent fingering and mark every change of articulation. In the Menuet, let appoggiaturas direct the phrase; in the Presto, group runs by phrase units and avoid accenting every thumb crossing.
