Duo no. 11 for two horns, KV 487: Menuetto

About this work

Duet no. 11, K. 487 opens its Menuetto with a brief gesture that the horns extend in turn. The Trio then brings a different profile: the flow relaxes, note values have more room to breathe, and triplets occasionally animate the texture. The final return restores the original gait.
Differentiate the three moments
Give the Menuetto a light marching rhythm, with a grounded but never heavy first beat. Refine the articulation and cadence without hardening the tone. The Trio benefits from a more horizontal approach: sustain each sound towards its destination and let the ornaments belong to the line. A short silent preparation is enough before the return.
Use the repeats to alter the dynamic colour, perhaps by bringing forward a response that previously remained in the background. This variation avoids mere duplication while respecting the structure and tempo. Menuetto, Trio and the da capo direction share one page, and the MIDI file restores their complete order.
