Fugue en Mib majeur KV 153/375f

About this work

The Fugue in E-flat major K.153/375f dates from 1782 and survives as a fragment. Its firm, mostly stepwise subject enters successively in several voices; Mozart quickly draws the replies closer and circulates the material across the keyboard’s registers.

This document includes the nineteenth-century continuation by Simon Sechter. His editorial conclusion carries the counterpoint through to a full cadence, making a performable whole, but it should not be mistaken for an ending by Mozart.

Identify every subject entry before combining the voices. Practise in pairs with fingerings that preserve sustained notes, then balance the layers; from the point where the continuation begins, retain the same touch while remaining aware of the change in authorship.
