About this work

Mozart wrote the Gigue in G major K.574 in 1789 for harpsichord or fortepiano. Its leaping subject immediately enters in imitation, with syncopation and displaced accents lending the dance an almost contrapuntal relief.

The second half reverses several directions and multiplies crossings between the hands. Despite its brevity, the piece traverses different registers and firmly closes its sequences with a compact cadence.

Practise each entry separately and retain the same articulation as it passes from one hand to the other. Keep the compound subdivision stable, lighten non-structural notes and prevent crossings from shifting the accents.
