About this work
Quartet K. 155 uses a concise three-movement design. In the opening Allegro, the first violin launches rapid passagework above a clear accompaniment, yet the other instruments regularly take up motifs and alter the texture at cadences.
The Andante slows the motion without stopping the conversation: sustained lines answer one another above an active bass. The closing Molto Allegro tightens the figures, multiplies repeats and alternates unison passages, brief responses and cadential chords.
Keep semiquavers articulated rather than dominant. In the Andante, tune sustained notes and support every transfer of the line. The finale will gain clarity if all four players first agree on upbeats and cadences, then add the dynamic contrasts.
