About this work
In the Allegro of Quartet K. 160, rapid figures pass between registers while the lower voices maintain a moving bass. The answers are not simple echoes: they often extend the phrase or shift its accent.
The central Un poco Adagio simplifies the rhythm and brings chord tuning, sustained notes and suspensions to the foreground. The final Presto restores rapid circulation, alternating homorhythmic passages with first-violin figures and renewed impulses from the cello.
Rehearse the Allegro while following each of the four lines in turn. In the Adagio, tune intervals from the cello upwards and allow resolutions to breathe. The Presto must remain transparent: lighten accompaniments, synchronise upbeats and retain dynamic reserve for cadences.
