About this work
The first movement of Quartet K. 171 combines Adagio, Allegro assai and a return of the Adagio. This slow frame gives particular weight to chords and silences before rapid figures set all four parts in motion.
The Menuetto and trio shift the balance between collective stresses and more independent lines. The Andante favours connected exchanges, after which the final Allegro assai tightens motifs, imitations and cadences into a highly concentrated movement.
Prepare the transition from Adagio to Allegro without losing the inner pulse. In the central movements, adjust the tone of accompanying parts at every transfer of melody. Keep the finale readable: rehearse shared motifs slowly and align phrase endings before increasing the tempo.
