About this work
Quartet K. 465 begins with an Adagio in which successive entries, foreign notes and delayed resolutions deliberately obscure the key. The following Allegro suddenly clarifies C major while retaining writing in which motifs circulate among all four strings.
The Andante cantabile places a calm song above active inner parts. The Menuetto Allegro sets vigorous stresses against a lighter trio. The final Allegro molto combines passagework, imitation and changes of texture in a broad progression.
In the introduction, tune every interval for its function as a tension and do not hurry any resolution. The Andante requires inner parts to remain audible beneath the melody. In the finale, build crescendos from successive entries instead of increasing the volume indiscriminately.
