About this work
Quintet K.614 opens with a bright Allegro di molto built from brief calls, answers and rapid motion among five instruments. The two violas give depth to the inner parts and allow motifs to change register without interrupting the phrase.
The Andante organises its material as variations: the theme remains recognisable while rhythm, accompaniment and the distribution of parts are transformed. The Menuetto Allegretto and trio restore dance stresses. The final Allegro combines regular motion with imitative entries and tightly spaced harmonic turns.
In the first movement, do not let a lively tempo erase answers in the inner voices. For the variations, define the leading role of each instrument before setting dynamics. The finale will gain clarity if all five players first align upbeats and bass lines, then add the details of articulation.
