Symphony K.22, often associated with Mozart’s stay in The Hague, follows the Italian three-movement plan. The B-flat major Allegro alternates assertive chords, rapid violin figures and more open answers; the winds reinforce articulation without becoming mere doublings.
The central Andante changes perspective through steadier writing and stepwise lines. The final Molto allegro is brief and nervous: cells repeat, change register and converge on firm cadences that give the movement its cohesion.
Begin by settling the length of repeated notes and the contrasts between forte and piano in the Allegro. Keep an active pulse beneath the connected phrases of the Andante. For the finale, practise links between motifs at a moderate speed, then increase the tempo only when winds and strings finish together.
