With Symphony K.43, Mozart moves to a four-movement design. The F-major Allegro juxtaposes orchestral statements with more mobile string figures. Winds colour the returns and cadences, while the bass maintains a clearly perceptible direction.
The Andante broadens the phrases and lightens the attack. The Menuetto and Trio then introduce a dance pulse: the former retains square stresses, while the latter changes colour and density. The final Allegro combines rapid passagework, returns and firm conclusions.
First settle the balance of chords in the opening movement, then bring out the lines that connect them. In the Menuetto, retain a genuine three-beat measure without stressing every crotchet. The finale needs clear attacks and supple bass lines so that energy does not turn into heaviness.
