Symphonie n°11 en Ré majeur K 84

About this work

Symphony in D major, K.84 is a work of doubtful authenticity. Surviving sources variously name Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Leopold Mozart or Carlo Ditters; it should therefore be presented as a score transmitted under several names, not as a secure composition by Wolfgang.

Its Allegro sets two oboes, two horns and strings in dialogue through brief phrases and clearly punctuated cadences. The Andante reduces the tension and gives more room to connected lines. A final Allegro restores D-major momentum in concise form.

That uncertainty does not prevent precise musical work. Balance wind chords against string figures in the first movement. The Andante needs a stable bass and shared breathing. For the finale, retain a lively tempo in which answers remain audible and every cadence can genuinely complete its phrase.
