Symphony K.318 in G major is built as an overture in three connected sections. The Allegro spiritoso presents rapid gestures and clearly outlined orchestral answers. Continuity matters more than a traditional separation into movements.
The central Andante slows the pulse, reduces the weight and lets the lines answer within a calmer space. The Primo Tempo then returns without mechanically repeating the opening: it reactivates the material and leads directly to the conclusion.
In rehearsal, prepare the move into the Andante and especially the return to the first tempo. Changes should grow from a shared pulse. In the fast sections, rank the accents and keep bass lines mobile; in the Andante, winds must breathe without interrupting the phrase’s long direction.
