The ‘Linz’ Symphony K.425 is Mozart’s first symphony to begin with a slow Adagio. Chords, silences and harmonic changes prepare the Allegro spiritoso, whose energy grows from brief motifs and a broadly deployed orchestra.
The Andante retains a supple pulse beneath singing lines. The Menuetto with Trio explores differences of weight between sections. The final Presto multiplies exchanges, rapid figures and cadences while maintaining a very clear architecture.
Connect the Adagio and Allegro through a shared inner pulse. In the Andante, accompaniments must support without thickening. For the Menuetto and finale, place upbeats together and retain dynamic reserve: the great tuttis will have more impact if the intervening episodes remain genuinely lighter.
