About this work
Symphony K.550 in G minor begins without an introduction: the violas establish an uneasy pulse beneath the violin theme. In this second version, Mozart adds two clarinets; their timbre deepens the wind answers without erasing the tension of the strings.
The Andante advances through repeated figures and crossing lines. The Menuetto Allegretto turns the dance into strongly accented motion, with a more open Trio. The final Allegro assai drives motifs through imitation, silences and harmonic ruptures.
In the Molto Allegro, keep the accompaniment even but never mechanical. The Andante requires close listening to dissonances and their resolutions. In the Menuetto, feel long measures rather than each beat. The finale benefits from slow work by individual parts so that entries remain clear at tempo.
