About this work
Pleyel’s Minuet is a Moderato in 3/4. The upper line moves in regular phrases, supported by a bass often written in quavers and therefore more active than a simple chord on every beat. Slurs and short replies between registers preserve a light texture suited to the dance character.
The page contains thirty-one written bars, two repeated sections, a Fine and a Da capo al Fine instruction. The complete form therefore returns to the beginning after the second part and stops at the Fine. This route must be prepared before performance: hesitation at the return disrupts the motion more than a small technical flaw.
Practise the bass alone, ranking the first beat. Add the melody and preserve slurs across shifts. Rehearse separately the passage leading to the Da capo, then the return through the Fine. Keep the same Moderato throughout and vary dynamics rather than tempo on the final return.
