About this work
The Fantasy in G major D.1, dated 1810 in the edition, is a substantial early work for piano four hands. Its 36 pages alternate extended Secondo and Primo sections while moving through Adagio, Andante, Allegro, Presto, march, Vivace and finale.
Rather than forming a string of independent pieces, the music brings back recognisable gestures: calling chords, repeated figures, octave lines and continuous accompaniments. Tempo changes transform these materials, sometimes within a few bars, before recovering a previously heard pulse.
Create a shared map of tempos and rehearsal numbers. Each partner must know when a motif moves from accompaniment to foreground. During transitions, retain the previous section’s final pulse until the new character is clearly established.
