Fantaisie en Sol mineur D.9

About this work

The Fantasy in G minor D.9 is a piano-four-hands work dated 20 September 1811. It forms a single fantasy in 4 sections: Largo, Allegro, Tempo di Marcia and a return of the Largo, with a continuous dialogue between Secondo and Primo.

The Largo opens with grave phrases and expressive silences. The Allegro accelerates exchanges and thickens the chords; the march then shifts key and rhythm before the closing bars recover the slow atmosphere in abbreviated form.

Both partners should count the Largo’s silences together and prepare forceful attacks without anticipation. In the Allegro, group runs by direction. The march requires shared accents, while the final return must immediately recover the opening breath.
