About this work
The D-flat-major Sonata D. 567 is the first version of a work Schubert later recast in E-flat major as D. 568. The original key darkens the low register and gives transitions an especially gentle resonance.
Across the surviving movements, the form rests on clearly bounded themes, gradual modulations and returns prepared by the bass. Clarity of plan matters more than added dramatics.
Locate harmonic pivots before choosing pedalling. Keep upper voices mobile in chordal passages and let the pulse advance through legato lines. Then compare this version with D. 568 without confusing the two.
